Foodborne illnesses are easily preventable, but can have severe health consequences that may be fatal if appropriate preventive actions are not taken. This includes the proper storage of food, temperature control for food, cleaning and disinfecting utensils/surfaces, avoiding cross-contamination between different foods (e.g. meat, dairy, and vegetables), and proper hand washing. We conduct surveillance on foodborne illnesses and work with our local food vendors to prevent any illnesses and outbreaks associated with food in the Plymouth food system.
